how do I search for passive candidates? Other than on job boards?
Filed Under job search | 1 Comment
I want to know the search string to use to find resumes in places other than on job boards; for instance, on employee home pages. On Google, I enter: keyword keyword keyword (inurl:resume OR intitle:resume). Or, to find employee homepages via Altavista, I enter in the search field: link:www.employerwebsite.com AND (keyword AND keyword) AND (my OR home). How can I achieve similar results on Yahoo? What are the tricks? Or, where can I find the tricks? Thank you.

I want a web site like monster or something, but I’m not sure if it’s free. Is it? If not what is another website like monster.com that is free, but still good.
I am looking for any kind of job really as long as it’s not totally fast food. I am still a high school student but I am very smart for my age and have had many summer jobs before. I am looking for a nice part time job around here

Where can I go online to get the most extensive job search for what I’m looking for?
Filed Under job search | 1 Comment
I’m looking for broadcasting jobs in radio or television or also a possibility of newspaper writing. I live in Gallipolis, Ohio and am having a hard time finding jobs close or within an hour from me I don’t want to travel more than an hour but would like a good job in one of these fields I have a bachelors degree in communications and of the three I would be most interested in either a radio broadcasting job as a DJ on either a christian contemporary radio station or a country music radio station. Monster.com and Careerbuilder.com and randomly searching online newspaper in or close to me isn’t working well to find what I’m looking for. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I just graduated from a college in Arkansas with a degree in business. I’m applying to almost any job I can find; some of which are in the Northeaster area of the states. Am I wasting my time on applying to entry level positions so far away from my home? I’m just uncertain that the company will pay to fly me out since it’s entry level, and thus, perhaps I should be focusing my job search efforts within say, a 500 mile radius of my location.

Are there any job search sites (like monster, hot jobs, etc) that let you search by your major or degree?

For instance: you could select biology or history when asked degree held and get job postings for positions that use those degrees.

Is it appropriate to call hiring managers directly when cold calling for a job search?
Filed Under job search | 2 Comments
My wife and I are soon moving to Nashville and I was wondering if it was appropriate to call hiring managers about your skills and skill sets directly and leave them messages? I know this is what head hunters do for candidates, as I use to work for a temporary agency that placed permanent hires.
Would it be better to call during the week or on the weekends? I am currently working, so calling during the week may be a bit challenging. I kind of got my current position this way, though I knew people in town so it was easier to do. I actually called HR and left them a message. I was called back immediately and the VP Controller thanked the HR lady for bringing me to him. However, I am applying online right now and am not having much luck, other than one company flying me in to interview only to send me a form rejection e-mail.
Please advise.
